Cortina D’ampezzo
The Queen of the Dolomites, Cortina d'Ampezzo, is one of the most famous Dolomite peaks and the highest point in the world (1210 m). Its superb surroundings, including the Croda da Lago, the Nuvolau, the Cinque Torri, the Tofane group, the Cristallo, the Faloria and the Sorapiss, make it one of the most attractive. It was probably colonized in the 11th century and was later dominated by barbarians such as the Lombards and Franks. Unlike Cadore, it was not ruled by the Republic of Venice, but remained under imperial rule along with Livinallongo and Colle Santa Lucia, from 1511 until the end of World War I.
