Valle di Cadore

Valle di Cadore is an Italian municipality with a population of 1,885 inhabitants located in the province of Belluno, in Veneto. It lies in the flat valley floor at the foot of mount Antelao, opposite the Sasso di Mezzodì. The town, also home to a Roman fort, was crossed by a road called "della Greola" which, rising from Perarolo di Cadore, then continued northwards through the Boite valley constituting, at least from the 11th century, the Old Royal Road. Over the years, there have been many discoveries of finds dating back to Roman times, now on display at the Museo Archeologico Cadorino (Archaeological Museum of Cadore). Valle di Cadore is also rich in buildings dating from the Venetian period: the most beautiful ones are to be found on the road that leads to the Church of St. Martin. The latter, built around the 13th century, was restored in 1473, demolished in 1509 and finally replaced by a new building.
