Ospitale di Cadore

Ospitale di Cadore is a small Italian municipality with a population of 281 inhabitants located in the province of Belluno, in Veneto. The place name refers to the ancient hospice, whose building still exists, which welcomed the numerous travellers who ventured on the Piave valley. This building still remains one of the oldest and most prestigious in the area, preserving a two-light mullioned window in Gothic style, whose presence is documented as early as the 14th century. In addition to a whole series of religious architectural constructions, there are still evident remains of the ancient Roman road that ran along the Piave Canal just north of the built-up area, along with the discovery of some archaeological finds from an early mediaeval metallurgical village.
