Longarone

Longarone is an Italian municipality with a population of 5,254 inhabitants located in the province of Belluno, in Veneto. The position of Longarone makes it interesting from the tourist point of view thanks to the National Park of the Belluno Dolomites, the most fascinating natural heritage site in the province, which offers pleasant excursions starting from Pian Cajada, Podenzoi, the Val de Grisd, to areas of considerable interest such as Mount Pelf, Mount Cirvoi, Mount Talvena and Val Desedau. Its origins date back to Roman times, a fact witnessed by the numerous local archaeological finds, including some tombs in the locality of Fortogna, other objects of common use and the remains of an ancient Roman road in the hamlet of Roggia. Especially noteworthy are some local museums, such as the Pietre Vive Vajont Museum and the Ethnographic Museum, dedicated to the raftsmen of the Piave. The imposing dam, one of the highest in the world, built between 1957 and 1960 with the aim of containing the waters of the Piave, Maè and Boite, certainly does not go unnoticed.
