Lake Dobbiaco

Lake Dobbiaco is a small alpine lake of landslide origin located in Val Pusteria (Puster Valley) at an altitude of 1,176 metres, included in the municipality of Dobbiaco, about 106 km from Bolzano, whose access has been facilitated over the last few years thanks to the construction of open spaces and parking lots. The lake is located exactly on the border between two natural parks: that of the Tre Cime (Park of the Three Peaks) and that of Fanes - Sennes and Braies. The basin has an estimated volume of 286,000 cubic metres and a perimeter of about 4.5 kilometres and is one of the few examples of “marcita”, i.e. wetland, existing in the Alpine region. Most people ignore the fact that, scattered around the lake, there are also 5 Italian bunkers, built at the behest of Mussolini in 1939 to protect the access routes to Italy.
