CarboninCarbonin is a locality in the Italian municipality of Dobbiaco, in the province of Bolzano. It is located between the Val di Landro (Landro Valley) and the homonymous lake, the Rienza Valley and the Rio Popena Valley and is crossed by the Alemagna road, which connects the Val Pusteria (Puster Valley) in Alto Adige to Cortina d'Ampezzo. The locality is therefore situated at the point of convergence of three natural Dolomite parks, namely: Tre Cime, Fanes-Sennes-Braies and Ampezzo. The place name "Carbonin", assigned by the inhabitants of the nearby Auronzo di Cadore, derives from the fact that in the 19th century the wood cut in the surrounding forests was used by the numerous charcoal piles scattered throughout the area.
